Working for a name like IBM in a spot like this is interesting. It doesn't feel like those big glass buildings you see on the news. We’re right in the middle of where people live and go about their lives. Our daily routine is mostly about data and systems, sitting at desks that have seen better days. The street outside is always full of life, with kids playing and people heading to the market for vegetables. Inside, we are just trying to keep the servers running and the code clean. It gets hot in the afternoons, and the noise from the street comes right through the windows. We don’t really do the corporate meetings with powerpoints or fancy labels. We just talk across the room to each other when something goes wrong. It’s a practical way to work. We’ve all been doing this for long enough that we don’t need much direction from anyone. We just show up, do the work, and try to make sure everything is functioning like it’s supposed to. It’s just us, some computers, a lot of tangled wires, and a lot of work to get through before the weekend comes around. We stay until the job is done, no matter how long it takes.
