The shop here on Gurudwara Road stays busy most days. We get started early, usually around ten, after the traffic in Karol Bagh starts picking up. It’s a lot of noise outside with the rickshaws and people heading towards the market. Hotline Communication has been in this spot for a while now. Some days are slow, just sitting behind the counter watching the street, but mostly someone is dropping by for something. We deal with the usual stuff, phones and connections, nothing too fancy. The light in the back of the shop flickers a bit when the AC kicks in, which is annoying but we haven’t gotten around to fixing it yet. My nephew helps out on weekends when it gets crowded. We know most of the guys running the shops next door. Sometimes we order tea from the corner stall and just talk about how the weather is changing. 29007 is the block where we spend most of our lives. It’s not a big place, just enough room for the display cases and a couple of chairs for people to wait. We don’t really do much advertising, people just see the sign when they walk past the Gurudwara. It gets dusty because of all the construction nearby. We keep a rag handy to wipe the glass every hour. It’s just a regular way to make a living in this part of Delhi.
