Hotel Ashok

Hotel Ashok is over at A 30 Singh Bhumi in the Khatipura area of Jaipur. It’s a straightforward place, nothing like those giant luxury resorts you see in the movies. We’ve got rooms for people who just need a decent place to stay while they are visiting the city. The building is part of a regular neighborhood, so it feels more like staying in a home than a big hotel. We handle everything from checking people in to making sure the rooms are tidied up. Jaipur can get very hot, so we spend a lot of time making sure the fans and coolers are working like they should. We don't have a massive staff, just a few of us who take turns being at the front desk. We see all kinds of travelers come through, some for work and some just to see the sights. We try to keep things simple and honest. If a room needs a bulb changed, we do it. If someone needs directions to the local market, we tell them. It’s just a basic hotel business run by local people. We’ve been here in Singh Bhumi for a while and the locals know us. It’s not a fancy life, but we like meeting new people and hearing their stories. We just want to make sure the doors are open and the beds are ready for whoever arrives in Jaipur. It’s a busy life but we enjoy the work we do here.
