Being located at B 415 in the Khadia Project area of Shakti Nagar, we are right in the heart of Sonbhadra. It is a very specific kind of place to work, especially being in Uttar Pradesh where the landscape is quite industrial. Our office isn’t anything too special to look at, just a practical space where we handle the Hcl business. There’s a lot of activity around the project site, so you can always hear machines or trucks in the distance. We get a lot of dust because of the work going on nearby, so we are always wiping down the desks. The people working here are mostly locals or folks who have moved to Sonbhadra for the project. We start early in the morning before it gets too hot. Most of the day involves looking at paperwork or coordinating with people on the site. It’s a very functional environment. We don’t have much decoration on the walls, just a few calendars and some charts that we actually use. During the lunch break, most of us walk over to the small stalls nearby to get something to eat. The community here is tight-knit because everyone is involved in the same kind of work. It’s a straightforward life, focusing on the tasks at hand and making sure everything is recorded properly in our files before we head home for the day. We’ve seen the weather change from really dusty winds to heavy rains that make the project site a bit of a mess.
