Down here in Jalesar, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Our office is at number 5 in Lohiya Nagar. It is a simple place in Uttar Pradesh, nothing like those big glass buildings you see in the pictures. We deal with a lot of local stuff, keeping an eye on projects and making sure the supplies are moving to where they need to be. The office gets quite hot in the summer months, so we keep the fans going all day long. It is a lot of us sitting around desks covered in maps and site plans. Most of the people working here grew up in this area or nearby towns. We know the local roads and the people who live along them. It is practical work. We spend a lot of time talking to contractors or checking on the progress of a job over the phone. If there is a problem at a site, one of us usually has to hop on a scooter and go see it for ourselves. We do not have a fancy dress code; we just wear what is comfortable for the dust and the heat. At lunch, we usually share whatever we brought from home. It is a basic way of working, but we have been doing it a long time now. We just want to make sure the infrastructure actually gets built properly.
