We are over here in Krishan Vihar, specifically at C 1/93. On this street, it gets pretty crowded during the afternoons when the schools let out and people head to the market. Gish Shoppe has been at this spot for a while now. Most days just start with opening the shutter and dusting off the shelves. Since it’s a bit of a tight space inside, we have to work hard to keep all the stuff organized. New Delhi gets so dusty that half the morning is just cleaning. To help folks who are waiting, we have a couple of chairs set out. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, so we just sit by the door where there’s a little more light. Mostly, it’s just me and a few others here. Because we handle a lot of different things throughout the day, it never really stays quiet for very long. The address says India, but for us, it’s just this little corner of Delhi 110086. By now, we know the neighbors pretty well. Around four o'clock, the tea stall nearby brings us glasses of chai. It isn't a fancy setup or anything like that. Focusing on the tasks at hand is how we get through the day, making sure the inventory is where it should be. Maybe the walls could use a new coat of paint, but the place feels like home because we spend so much time here.
