G. K. Residency, C-203, G.K. 1, New Delhi

G. K. Residency is over in Gulmohar Park, specifically at B-111 in the Journalist Colony. It’s a much quieter area than some of the other parts of New Delhi, which is nice when you want to get away from the main road noise. The house is part of a residential block, so it feels more like a home than a big hotel. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen making sure there is enough tea and breakfast for whoever is staying with us. The 110049 area has a lot of trees, so the light coming through the windows in the morning is quite soft. We have a few rooms spread out, and we try to keep the floors polished and the curtains clean. It is a bit of a walk to the main shops, but the quiet makes up for it. The caretaker stays on-site and is usually the one who answers the door if someone arrives late at night. We don't have a big neon sign or a lobby with a fountain. It’s just a gate with the number B-111 on it. People who stay here are often looking for a place that isn't too loud or busy. We spend our days tidying up and making sure the water tanks are full and the garden out front doesn't get too overgrown with weeds. It is a steady way to live, looking after the house and the people passing through.
