Our office for Fullerton India Credit Company Ltd is tucked away in Vill-Pithanwas, which is part of the Rewari district in Haryana. It is a small setup compared to the big headquarters you might find in a place like Delhi. Most of the folks who come to see us are from the surrounding villages. They walk in with their files and their questions about loans or credit. We spend a lot of time sitting at our desks, going through papers and trying to make sense of all the numbers. The building isn't anything special to look at, just a practical space where we can get our work done. Outside, you can hear the sounds of the village, sometimes tractors passing by or people shouting to each other across the road. It gets very dusty during the dry season, and we are always cleaning the windows just to see out clearly. We aren't here to give some big corporate speech or anything like that. We are just local staff trying to help people get the money they need for their farms or their small shops. It can be stressful when the system goes down or the paperwork gets backed up, but we just take it one day at a time. Rewari has its own way of doing things, and we fit into that pace. We drink a lot of chai while we wait for the next person to walk in. It’s a quiet but busy life here.
