Front Office Assistant

Our spot is at B-128 in Dayanand Colony, which is inside Lajpat Nagar-IV. New Delhi 110024 is a busy area, but our little corner is a bit more tucked away. Working as a Front Office Assistant here means I am usually the first person anyone sees when they walk through the door. The office is small, and I spend most of my time behind a wooden desk that has a few scratches on it. There is a landline phone that rings more often than I’d like, and a computer that takes its time starting up in the morning. We have a few chairs for visitors, but they aren't often full. The walls are a plain color, and we have a few calendars pinned up to keep track of the dates. Outside, the sounds of the colony are always there—honking cars, people calling out, and the occasional dog barking. It isn't a high-pressure corporate environment. It is more about keeping things organized and making sure the mail goes to the right people. We drink a lot of water because it gets dry in the office. Every now and then, the boss asks for something to be filed away, and I have to hunt through the cabinets. It is a very normal job in a very normal part of town. We just keep the front desk running so the rest of the work can happen. Sometimes the lights flicker when the neighbor uses their heavy machinery, but we just keep going.
