Uri is a quiet place mostly, up here in Jammu and Kashmir. Our spot at P7/2 is where we spend most of our daylight hours. The Food Court isn't anything like those big malls in the city. It’s more of a place where people stop because they need a break from the road. The air is different here, colder and sharper. We spend a lot of time just keeping the place warm for whoever walks in. The tables are basic wood and the menu is just what we can manage to make fresh that day. In 110010, things move a bit slower than in the bigger cities, even though the address on the mail looks a bit different than what you would expect for this region. We have some regular guys who come in for tea and just sit there for an hour. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use the old lamps. It’s not a big operation, just a few of us making sure there’s enough hot food to go around. We spend a lot of time cleaning the windows because the mountain dust is relentless. The kitchen isn't huge but it gets the job done. You can hear the wind outside sometimes when it gets really quiet between the lunch and dinner rush. We don't have any fancy decorations, just some old posters and the smell of whatever is cooking on the stove. It’s a simple life out here.
