Fedex Express

Down here at Wz-1496 in Nangal Raya, things are usually moving along pretty fast. This is the Fedex Express spot for this particular part of New Delhi-46. It is not a fancy office at all; it is more of a practical place where boxes and envelopes come and go all day long. You will see the delivery bikes and the larger trucks pulling in and out of the yard from early in the morning. The street outside is a bit narrow, so it takes some real skill to drive the bigger vehicles around here. Inside the building, there are stacks of parcels everywhere you look. We spend a lot of our time scanning labels and sorting everything into different piles for the drivers. It is mostly about making sure the right box gets to the right house on time. The floor is made of plain concrete and the lights are those long tubes that flicker a bit when you first turn them on. We do not have any decorations on the walls, just some maps of the local area and some delivery schedules. It is a very practical kind of workspace. When the weather gets really hot, we usually keep the big metal shutters open to get a bit of a breeze. You get to know the regulars who come in to drop off their mail. It is a lot of physical work, lifting and carrying things, but we like it well enough. We just get through the pile and wait for the next truck.
