Exide Batteries

Our shop, Exide Batteries, is tucked away in Krishna Market over in Rohini Sector 7. If you know the area, you know Kh No 97 is right in the thick of things where all the mechanics and spare parts shops are. It is a busy place, and there is always the smell of grease and rubber in the air. We keep the batteries stacked up high on sturdy metal racks because they are very heavy to move around. Usually, there is someone out front helping a customer lift a dead battery out of their car or van. It’s hard work on the back, but it’s what we do every day. The floor is concrete and usually has a few scuff marks from the crates being dragged across it. When the summer heat hits Delhi 85, it gets really warm inside the shop, so we keep the big shutters open as much as we can. We have a small desk in the corner with a calculator and a ledger where we write everything down by hand. There isn’t much room for sitting around. People come here because they are in a hurry and their vehicle won't start, so we just get to work and find what they need from the stock. It’s a straightforward way to spend the day, surrounded by lead and plastic boxes. Sometimes the street gets so blocked with delivery trucks that we have to wait a while to get anything out.
