Our office is actually just House No- 3254 in Ranjeet Nagar, which makes it feel a lot more like a home than a corporate business. It is a New Delhi address tucked away in a residential street where everyone knows everyone else. When you walk in, you are basically in a converted living room that we have filled with desks and filing cabinets. There is a lot of paperwork because travel involves so many different forms and copies of IDs. We have a few landline phones that ring quite often, and someone is usually shouting across the room to ask about a booking. The walls are a bit bare, maybe just a map or two pinned up. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going and sometimes open the front door to let a breeze in, even if it brings in some dust from the road. We are not a big agency with a fancy storefront; we are just a local spot where people come because they know us. Most of our day is spent checking prices and confirming dates on the computer. We take turns going out to get tea for everyone from the shop down the lane. It is a simple way to work, and we like the fact that it is not too formal. We just get the job done and go home when the work is finished for the day. That is how we have always done it.
