Our office is over in Paschim Vihar, at BG5/35D. It might seem like a quiet residential spot, but we do a lot of the legwork for the embassy here. People come in with their passports and documents, looking for stamps or help with visas. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting for some, while we are in the back trying to check everything and make sure it’s legal. The space is practical. We have chairs for the visitors and desks piled with folders that never seem to get smaller. We try to be helpful, though the rules are strict and we have to follow them to the letter. It’s not always fast because every paper has to be perfect. Sometimes we have to tell someone to go back and get a different copy, which isn't fun for them or us, but it’s part of the job. The staff here in Paschim Vihar are used to the routine. We see all kinds of people, from students to businessmen, all hoping to travel. We drink a lot of water and tea during the day to keep going. The neighborhood is nice, and it’s a bit calmer than the main embassy areas in the center of the city. We just focus on the documents in front of us and try to get through the queue without making any mistakes. It’s serious work, but we do it in a very ordinary, everyday setting where things just keep moving forward steadily until we close for the day.
