Du

Our little spot is called Du, and we are mainly known for handling things in Hindi and English for whoever needs help. We don’t have a traditional street address listed like the other businesses, but we operate in those two languages every single day from our workspace. It’s a simple setup where we spend our time translating, writing, or just helping people communicate better between the two languages. The desks are usually covered in dictionaries, scrap paper, and half-finished notes from the morning. We aren't some big corporate firm with a fancy glass front or a receptionist. Most of us just sit around in comfortable clothes and work through the texts that come our way. Sometimes a sentence in Hindi is really tricky to get right in English, and we spend way too long arguing about the best word to use. We drink a lot of tea while we work, and the room usually smells like it by the afternoon. There’s a lot of clicking from the keyboards and the occasional sound of someone reading a paragraph out loud to see if it sounds natural to the ear. We aren't doing anything fancy or high-tech; it's just about the words and making sure they make sense to whoever is reading them. It’s a bit of a quiet life, really. We focus on getting the meaning across as clearly as we can without making it sound too stiff or formal for the readers.
