Border Security Force(Mha)

We are based at Hangar No 2 at the Safdarjung Airport. This is the BSF Airwing under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is a big, echoing space with a lot of metal and the smell of oil and fuel everywhere. Safdarjung is a bit different from the big international airport. It is quieter, but inside the hangar, there is always something being fixed. We have the helicopters and planes sitting there while the mechanics do their thing. It is not a clean office job. There is a lot of dust and grease. We spend time on the tarmac or looking through technical manuals. The hangars get really hot in the Delhi summer, and the fans don't do much. You spend your day walking on concrete floors that are hard on your boots. We have a lot of paperwork too, because everything in flight has to be recorded properly. It is a lot of responsibility but we just take it one day at a time. The staff here is used to the routine. We have our tea near the entrance where there is a bit of a breeze. It is a government facility, so things are done a certain way. No frills, just the work of keeping the wing operational. Being right in the middle of New Delhi 110003, we are close to everything but tucked away behind the gates. It is a unique place to spend your working hours, surrounded by aviation gear and old hangars.
