Bajaj Auto Line

Our shop, Bajaj Auto Line, is at 27/1475 on Hari Singh Nalwa Street in Karol Bagh. This part of Delhi is never quiet. From the moment I get here at ten, there is a constant sound of engines revving and horns blaring. We handle a lot of different auto components. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to be very organized, or we’d never find anything. Everything is kept in small wooden drawers or stacked on metal racks. I’ve lived in this neighborhood my whole life, so I know most of the people who walk past. Sometimes someone just stops in to sit on the bench and talk about the weather or the news. We don't mind as long as they don't block the counter. The light inside is a bit dim because the buildings are so close together, but we’re used to it. We use old-fashioned ledgers for most things because the software always seems to crash when we need it most. It’s a simple life. We sell the parts, we talk to the mechanics, and we try to keep the shop clean, though the grease always finds a way back in. Lunch is usually brought from home in a tiffin, and we eat it quickly before the afternoon rush starts. It’s a lot of work, but it’s what we know. We aren't going anywhere else, as this street has become our second home after all these years of trading.
