I spend my days at Gayatri Gyan Mandir, which is located at Rzg-9/B in West Sagarpur, New Delhi. It is actually tucked away in the same building where S. C. Vashisth, who is an advocate, has his office. The neighborhood is very crowded and the streets are narrow, so there is always the sound of scooters and people shouting outside. I work as a teacher, and my space is filled with books, old notebooks, and stacks of papers that need grading. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the chairs are a bit mismatched. It’s not like those big private schools with marble floors. Here, it is just about the lessons. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to open all the windows to keep the room from getting too hot. The kids are loud, but they want to learn, which makes the long hours worth it. I usually have a cup of tea sitting on my desk that has gone cold because I got busy talking to a student. We don't have a big staff room or anything fancy. It is just a practical place for learning. West Sagarpur is a busy place, and being right there near the advocate's office means there are always people coming and going. It is a bit chaotic but it feels like home to me.
