We’ve been here at Gandhi Niwas for a while now. It’s a busy spot in New Madangir Colony, and if you know New Delhi, you know how crowded it gets around 110062. Most days, we’re just sitting here at Fist/179 dealing with phones and papers. People walk in all day long. Some are frustrated because their internet isn't working, others just want a new SIM card for their kid. It’s not fancy. The walls could use a bit of paint, and the fan makes a weird clicking noise when it's on high. We try to keep things moving. You see the same faces every month when it’s time to pay the bills. It’s a lot of talking. Sometimes we run out of chairs and people have to lean against the counter. The traffic outside on the main road is always loud, so we end up shouting a bit more than we should. My desk is covered in old receipts and those little plastic bits from SIM cards. We aren't trying to be anything special, just a place where folks in Madangir can get their mobile stuff sorted without too much of a headache. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we have a small cooler that helps a little bit. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot from this window. Shops come and go, but we’ve stayed put. It’s just how things are around here.
