Our office for Ahmedabad Bengal Roadways Pvt. Ltd. is at 33/34, Hari Nagar Ashram in New Delhi. If you’ve ever been to this part of Delhi, you know how crowded and loud it gets with all the traffic. We are right in the middle of it. Our days are filled with the sound of trucks idling and the shouting of drivers getting their papers ready. We deal with a lot of freight moving between different states. The office is usually covered in a thin layer of dust from the road outside, no matter how much we clean it. We have maps pinned to the walls and clipboards hanging everywhere. It’s a bit of a maze in here with all the ledgers and delivery receipts piled up. My job is mostly making sure the drivers know where they are going and that the cargo is loaded right. We don't have any fancy lounge or anything. It's just a place where work gets done. Sometimes a shipment gets delayed because of a breakdown or a blocked highway, and then the phones don't stop ringing for hours. We drink a lot of tea from the stall around the corner to keep ourselves going through the long shifts. It’s a tough business, transport, but it’s what we know. We just keep the trucks moving and the paperwork filed until the day ends.
