Ahmed Furnishing is located at No. 56/1 in Abul Fazal, Okhla. It’s a crowded area and the street outside is always full of people and rickshaws. Inside the shop, it’s mostly just piles of fabric and rolls of stuffing. We do a lot of sewing here. You can hear the machines going throughout the afternoon. There’s lint everywhere, on the floor and on our clothes. It’s just part of the job. We don’t have a big showroom. Most of the space is taken up by the big cutting table in the middle. We spend the day measuring curtains or fixing up old sofa covers. The light isn't great in the back, so we have some extra lamps set up. People from the neighborhood drop by with their old cushions or just to see what new cloth we got in. It gets quite warm with the iron always running. We keep the door open to get some air, even with the noise from Okhla outside. It’s a small team, just a few of us who know how to handle the needles and the heavy fabric. We’ve been in this building for a long time. There's an old calendar on the wall that hasn't been changed in years. We just focus on the stitching and making sure things are the right size. It's honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until evening. We have some tea around four o'clock every day. It’s a simple life in the shop.
