Darjeeling Gymkhana Resort

Darjeeling Gymkhana Resort is located right at The Mall Chowrastha in Darjeeling. Being up here at the postcode 734101, the air is usually cold and sometimes the mist comes right up to the front door. We are right in the middle of where everyone walks. The Mall is always full of people, horses, and tourists taking photos. Our place has been around for a long time and it feels like it. The wooden floors sometimes creak when you walk on them, and the windows are large to let in whatever light we can get. It’s a big building, so there is always something that needs fixing or a room that needs airing out. We spend a lot of time dealing with the dampness that comes with the mountain weather. In the mornings, you can see the tea gardens and the hills if the clouds stay away. People come in to get away from the cold wind outside. We have old furniture and the hallways are long. It's not like the new hotels they build these days; it has more character and a few more quirks. The staff knows how to handle the cold and we spend our days making sure the guests are comfortable. It’s a lot of walking up and down stairs. We don’t have much in the way of fancy gadgets, just a solid building in a very famous spot. It’s just how things are up here in the hills.
