Hotel Shambhu

Hotel Shambhu is located at 73 Gandhi Road. It’s a spot we’ve had for many years. The building shows its age in some spots, with creaky floorboards and windows that sometimes stick, but we like the character of it. Being on Gandhi Road means we are right in the thick of things. You can hear the sounds of the town from the front rooms—the honking, the people talking, and the general bustle of daily life. We don't have a big corporate team running things. It’s mostly just us and a couple of helpers who have become like family. The rooms are small but they stay warm enough when the fog rolls in, which happens a lot here. We provide heavy quilts because the mountain air gets sharp at night. We don't offer a lot of bells and whistles. There’s no room service menu with twenty pages. Usually, it’s just whatever we’ve got in the kitchen that day. Most people stay with us because they want to be close to the shops and the market. It’s a practical choice for someone who is traveling on a budget and doesn’t mind a bit of an old-fashioned feel. We keep the place as clean as we can, and we make sure there’s hot water in the mornings for everyone to wash up before they head out. It’s just how we do things at number 73. If the door sticks, you just give it a little push.
