Shubhodaya Vidyalaya

Down in Shivanagar, specifically the Mudushedde part of Vamanjur, you will find Shubhodaya Vidyalaya. We’re located in Mangalore, so the heat and humidity are just things we live with every day. The school isn't very far from the main road, but it’s far enough to be a bit calmer. We start our mornings early before it gets too hot for anyone to think clearly. The teachers arrive on their scooters, and the kids come in from the nearby houses on foot or by bus. Most of us have been working here for a while, so we’ve seen a lot of local families grow up over the years. It’s just a regular school where we focus on getting through the lessons and making sure everyone is doing okay. We spend a lot of time in the staff room drinking tea and figuring out the week's timetable. Sometimes the rain in Mangalore gets so bad we have to stop for a bit, but that’s just how it goes in this part of the state. The building is simple, and we try to keep it neat, though with so many students running around, there is always something to fix or paint. We don’t do things with a lot of noise or fanfare. It’s just a place for learning, right here in the middle of our community. Everyone knows the way to Vamanjur, and we’re just a part of the local landscape now, doing our bit every day for the neighborhood families.
