Over here in Guberan Nagar, which is part of S.Puthur village, we have Kurinji Malar Cashew Producer Company. A.Lawrence is the name you’ll see on the paperwork mostly. We are situated in the Cuddalore Taluk, right in the heart of cashew country. If you walk around here during the harvest time, you can smell the fruit and the nuts everywhere. It’s a lot of work getting the cashews ready and we are just a group of people trying to make it work. The village life is quiet most of the time except when the trucks come in to load up the bags. Our office isn't really an office, just a room where we sit and talk about the prices and the weather. The rain matters a lot to us because it decides if the crop will be good or if we will have a hard year. We don't have any fancy marketing people or big logos, just the name Kurinji Malar that we chose because it sounds right for this area. Everyone in S.Puthur knows where we are if you ask for Lawrence’s place. We spend our days checking the quality of the nuts and making sure the farmers get a fair deal for what they bring in. It's a simple life in Cuddalore-607003 and we don't try to make it sound like more than it is. Just a bunch of us working with cashews day in and day out.
