Our place is at number 18 in the Sidco Industrial Estate. If you walk inside, the first thing you notice is the smell of wood. We have stacks of planks and sawdust in most of the corners. It is a working shop, so it’s never really clean, no matter how much we sweep. We have a few heavy machines that make a lot of noise when they are running, so we usually have to shout to be heard. Most of the guys here have been working with their hands for a long time. We don't use much fancy tech; it's mostly about the tools and the material. The estate is always busy with trucks and people moving crates around. We have a small office area tucked away where we keep the orders and a phone that rings more than we’d like. Sometimes we sit on the wooden offcuts during our break because there aren't enough chairs for everyone. It’s a simple setup. We take the raw wood and turn it into whatever is on the order sheet for that week. It’s physical work and your back usually aches by the time you go home. But there is something nice about seeing a finished piece sitting there on the floor before it gets packed up for delivery. We aren't trying to be anything special, just making things out of wood the way we know how.
