Suvai Idily Shop

We have been operating Suvai Idily Shop for a good number of years now. You can find us at No 14/97 on Church Road. It is a busy little corner in Kuppakonanpudur. Being right near the State Bank of Mysore means there is always a crowd of people around the shop. We open the doors very early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool in Coimbatore. You can see the steam coming off the big idli cookers from the street. My brother and I handle the kitchen mostly. It is not a big place with fancy lights or air conditioning. We just have some basic benches and tables that have seen better days. The paint on the walls is peeling a little bit in the corners, but we keep the cooking area clean. People come here for a quick plate of idlis before they catch the bus to work. We serve them on small plates with a bit of sambar and coconut chutney. Sometimes the queue gets long and people have to stand outside on the pavement. We don't have a big menu because we prefer to do just a few things. By afternoon, we usually wrap things up because the batter is finished. It is hard work being on your feet since 5 AM. The floor gets a bit slippery with all the water and steam, so we have to be careful. It is just a regular local shop for regular people.
