Starting the day here on Sanganoor Road usually involves a bit of a struggle with the front shutter. It’s been sticking lately, especially when the weather gets damp. Once it’s up, the first thing is checking the milk crates. If they aren’t there by 6 AM, things get a bit stressful. Ganapathy is a busy area, so people start trickling in early for their daily tea leaves or some sugar. We try to keep the aisles clear, but boxes always seem to end up in the way while we’re restocking the pulses and soaps. It’s just how it goes when you have a lot of stuff in a space that never feels quite big enough. My hands are usually dusty from moving sacks around. We don’t have fancy displays or those bright lights that make everything look fake. It’s just us here, making sure there is enough salt, oil, and biscuits for the neighbors. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, and we just leave the door wide open to let the breeze in while we wait for it to come back. It gets quiet for an hour or two, and that’s when I usually try to catch up on the bookkeeping or just sit on the stool for a minute. By evening, the rush starts again when folks head home from work. It’s a lot of nodding and quick chats about the rain or the price of onions. We've been at 11 Sanganoor Road for a while now.
