Sree Annam Store

Sree Annam Store is located at number 16 on Oppanakara Street, right near the Town Hall. If you know this part of town, you know it’s one of the busiest places you can find. There’s a constant stream of people walking past our door. Our shop is quite narrow, so we have to stack things high up on the shelves to make everything fit. It’s a bit of a challenge to get things down sometimes, but we’re used to it. We don't have air conditioning, so it gets quite warm when the shop is full of customers. We just use the old hand fans or stand near the doorway for a bit of a breeze. It’s a traditional kind of store. We don’t have barcodes or fancy scanning machines. We know the prices and we write the receipts by hand. It’s more personal that way. The street outside is always noisy with honking cars and vendors shouting, but inside we just focus on helping whoever is at the counter. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, but we’ve stayed pretty much the same. We don’t use any corporate language or try to sound like a big chain store. We’re just a local shop in the heart of the city. People come to us because they know we’re always here. It’s a busy, cramped, and lively place to be. We keep an old wooden stool behind the counter for when things finally quiet down in the late evening. It’s not much, but it’s home for us.
