Shri Raman Chettiar Memorial Matriculation Higher Secondary School

Located over on Vilankuruchi Road in the Peelamedu area of Coimbatore, this school has seen a lot of changes in the neighborhood. When we first started, there wasn’t nearly as much traffic as there is now. Today, the road is always packed, and we have to be careful with the kids coming in and out. The school building is a sturdy one, with long corridors that echo when the students are in class. We have a small playground where the boys play football and the girls sit in circles talking. The staff room is usually a bit of a mess with textbooks and half-graded papers everywhere. We don’t spend much on decorations because we’re busy with the actual teaching. Our teachers have been with us for a long time, and they know most of the families around here by name. It’s a local place through and through. In the mornings, you can smell the breakfast stalls from the street while the assembly is happening. Sometimes the pipes leak a bit or a window gets stuck, but we fix things as they come up. It isn’t a perfect place, but it’s ours. The kids seem happy enough, and there is a lot of laughing in the hallways during the short breaks. We just take it one day at a time, making sure everyone is where they need to be and the lessons get finished before the sun goes down.
