Prabhath Coffee Works

Down here at Kesavans Buildings on Court Road, the smell of coffee is pretty much constant. We’ve been running Prabhath Coffee Works out of this spot for years. It’s not a big operation, just the roaster and the grinders and a lot of heavy sacks of beans stacked up against the walls. The floor usually has a bit of coffee dust on it by midday, no matter how much we sweep. When the big grinder starts up, you can hardly hear yourself talk, so it's mostly just nodding to the regulars who come in. Beans come in daily, and we roast them until they look right, then grind them up for whoever walks through the door. Some people want it fine, while others want it coarse for those old-style filters. None of that fancy latte art happens here. It’s just straight coffee. The building itself is a bit old, and Court Road always has something going on outside, so it’s a lively place to work. A lot of our time is spent just checking the temperature and making sure nothing burns. It’s a simple routine. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we have to shuffle things around, but that’s just how it goes. If you’re walking past the court buildings, you can usually tell we’re open just by the scent in the air. It’s just how things are around here every day of the week.
