P B Secondary School E M sits right on Trichy Road in the Sowripalayam area of Coimbatore. Being on a main road like this means everyone knows the spot. We’ve been here at number 401 for a good long time. It’s an English medium school, which is what the EM stands for, and we stick to the local curriculum. The building isn't new, but it's sturdy and serves its purpose. We have rooms for different grades, and the hallways can get quite narrow when everyone is moving between classes. The staff here are mostly local people who live nearby. We don't have a lot of extra bells and whistles, just the regular stuff you’d expect in a Coimbatore school. The noise from the traffic on Trichy Road is something we’ve all just gotten used to over the years. Our students come from all sorts of backgrounds. Some walk, some come on the bus. We keep a close eye on the attendance because that’s important. During the rainy season, things can get a bit messy near the entrance, but we manage. It’s a practical place for learning. We don't try to pretend to be something we aren't. We are just a school helping kids get through their secondary education so they can figure out what to do next with their lives. It's honest work and we do it every day, even when it’s tiring for the staff and the students.
