You’ll find us at No.4-D in Bharathidasan Nagar, which is over in the Ramanathapuram area of Coimbatore. It’s a decent neighborhood, mostly residential, so it stays relatively quiet during the school hours. We are a high school, so our days are filled with teenagers running around and trying to get to their classes before the bell rings. The building has been here for a good number of years and it definitely looks like it. We have to paint the walls every so often to keep it looking okay, but the wear and tear from hundreds of kids is hard to keep up with. Our classrooms are pretty basic with wooden desks and blackboards. We don’t have all those fancy computers or air conditioning that the newer schools have. It’s just a place for studying and getting through the exams. The playground is mostly a patch of dirt where the boys play football during the break, and it gets quite dusty when the wind picks up. Most of our students come from the local families around Ramanathapuram, so the teachers know a lot of the parents from the neighborhood shops. It’s a straightforward environment without any bells and whistles. We focus on the daily schedule and making sure the students are where they are supposed to be. It’s a lot of work keeping everything running smoothly, but we just take it one day at a time. It’s just a normal high school for the community.
