Mj Store

Mj Store is sitting at 110, Vassampallam Road in Ottuppattarai. It’s a small shop, but we try to keep it packed with the things people actually need. We don't have those fancy scanners or self-checkout lanes. It’s just me or one of the boys behind the counter with a notepad. We know most of the people who walk through the door by their first names. They come in for a few things and usually stay for a bit of a chat about the neighborhood. The shelves are a bit crowded, and sometimes it takes a minute to find exactly what someone is looking for. We try to keep things organized, but in a small space, it’s a constant struggle. The morning delivery trucks are always a bit of a headache because they block the road, but the neighbors are patient about it. We’ve been in this spot for a while now. We’ve seen kids grow up and start coming in to buy things for their own houses. It makes you feel a part of the place. We don’t do any advertising. The sign out front is a bit faded, but everyone knows we are here. It’s just a regular local store. We open up early, sweep the front, and stay until the evening. It’s not a complicated life, but it’s ours and we like it. We hope to be here for many more years.
