Karuna Departmental Store

The shop is located at Shop No 97 on Pankaja Mill Road, right in the Ramanathapuram area. We are directly across from the bus stop, which means there is always a lot of noise and people running around. It’s a handy spot because folks waiting for their bus often realize they forgot to buy something like a pack of biscuits or some soap and they just run across to us. I’ve been running this departmental store for some time and the routine is always the same. I spend a lot of my morning just checking what we sold yesterday and putting new things on the shelves. It’s a lot of work and my back usually hurts by the evening. The shop isn't very large, so we have to be smart about where we put things. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty because of all the traffic on the main road, but I try to keep the counters clean. People in Coimbatore are generally in a hurry, but some of the older neighbors still like to stand and talk for a bit. We don't have any bright signs or bright lights, just the usual stuff you'd find in a local store. It’s just me and maybe one helper most days. We keep the basic things people need every day so they don’t have to go all the way to a big mall or wait for a delivery.
