Guru Departmental Stores

If you look for 56, Srinagar on Avinashi Road, you will find us there. Guru Departmental Stores is right in the middle of all that traffic. The road is always busy with cars and buses going past. It gets quite loud inside the shop sometimes. We have many rows of shelves filled with household items. I spend a lot of time checking the labels and making sure nothing is empty. The lighting is a bit yellow and makes the place feel warm. We have a small staff and we all know where every single item is kept. Customers come in looking for specific things like spices or cleaning supplies. Sometimes they stay and chat for a minute but usually, everyone is in a hurry because of the Avinashi Road traffic. I have a small stool behind the counter where I sit when there are no customers. The floor is concrete and easy to clean, which is good because people bring in a lot of dust from the street. We keep the pulses and grains in plastic bins near the back. It isn't a fancy place with air conditioning, just some fans and open windows. Being in Srinagar means we see the same faces every week. It feels like a neighborhood spot even though the main road is right outside. We just keep doing our work and making sure the shelves stay full for whoever stops by next.
