G M Maligai

G M Maligai is a grocery store located at No 1/A, J K Garden Byepass Road, in the Ukkadam area of Coimbatore. We are specifically in the G M Nagar neighborhood. Ukkadam is a very lively and crowded part of the city, and our shop reflects that energy. It’s a bit of a squeeze inside because we try to stock everything from rice and dhal to small household items. The smell of raw spices is quite strong as soon as you walk in. We use old-fashioned manual scales to weigh out the grains for our customers. It feels more direct that way. The Byepass Road is always full of vehicles, so there is a constant hum of engines in the background while we work. The shop can get quite warm, and we only have a small fan that doesn't do much, but we are used to it. G M Nagar has a lot of families who have lived here for generations, and many of them are our regular customers. We don't have a computer for billing; we just do the math in our heads or on a small pad of paper. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time parking on the busy road, so we have to carry the heavy sacks quite a distance. It’s hard work, but it’s what we do. We open early and stay until the evening rush dies down. It’s just a traditional maligai store providing for the local people in Ukkadam.
