Our small business, Food Lands, is tucked away at 258, Narangapuram. It’s a quiet part of the neighborhood, which is nice because it lets us focus on our work without too much distraction. We handle various food items here, mostly preparing things for local distribution. The building is an older one, and it has its quirks, like a door that sticks when it’s humid out. We spend a lot of our time in the kitchen area, which is where everything happens. It’s not a commercial kitchen like you’d see in a big city, but it has everything we need to get the job done. We’ve been here for several years now and the routine hasn't changed much. We wake up early to beat the heat and start the prep work while the air is still cool. It’s a lot of manual labor, chopping and sorting and packing things into containers. Sometimes we run behind schedule when a machine breaks down or a delivery is late, but that’s just how it goes in this business. We don’t have a fancy office or a receptionist. If someone comes by, they usually just shout through the window or walk right in. Most of our customers are folks from Narangapuram who have known us for a long time. We aren’t trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to do our work, earn a living, and go home to our families at night.
