Best Steel

Being located near the PS Kalyana Mandapam on Bhavani Main Road means we see a lot of people passing by. Most of them are headed to weddings, but a few stop in to talk about steel. Our place at number 43 isn't huge, but we make use of every inch. We have been moving steel around this floor for years. The floor is scratched up from the heavy bundles, and that's just how it is. We start early because the traffic on Main Road gets bad later. If we don't get the trucks unloaded by nine, it becomes a headache. It's usually me and two other guys working here. We handle the heavy lifting ourselves. Sometimes the rain comes down hard and we have to scramble to cover everything up. You learn to read the clouds when you work with metal. We don't spend much on advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here. A lot of our business comes from word of mouth or people just seeing the sign while they’re stuck in traffic. We drink a lot of tea from the stall next door. It’s a basic setup. We have the scales, the stock, and a notebook for orders. It’s hard work, but it keeps us busy. We don't use computers much, just the old way of doing things. It might be a bit slow sometimes, but we get the job done.
