A P K Maligai

We are right by the Neivezhi Arch Gate. If you know that landmark, you’ve probably seen A P K Maligai. It’s a small shop, mainly serving the people who live nearby. I spend most of my day here, weighing out grains or packing bags for customers. The building is a bit old, and the paint is peeling in some corners, but it’s sturdy. I like the location because everyone passes by the gate. I grew up around here, so I know most of the families by name. We stock the usual kitchen supplies, spices, and oils. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and I have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s just how it goes sometimes. I don’t have any big plans to expand or anything like that. Just keeping the shop running is enough work for one person. My wife brings me lunch in a tiffin box every afternoon. We have a small radio that plays songs in the background. It keeps the atmosphere nice. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it’s hot outside. I try to keep things tidy, but with so many jars and sacks, it’s a bit of a squeeze. People stop by for a quick chat as much as they do for shopping. That’s the best part of the day. I keep a small bowl of water outside for the stray dogs too. It's a small thing but feels right to do.
