V.M.R. Engineering Works

Our shop, V.M.R. Engineering Works, is located down at New No. 48/162 on G.A. Road in Tondiarpet. It’s an old part of the city and the heat can be quite something in the afternoons, especially when the welding torches are going. We’ve got a small team here and most of us grew up around this area. The building isn't anything special to look at, just a regular industrial unit with a heavy shutter that we roll up every morning at eight. You can usually hear the sound of metal being cut from the street before you even see the sign. We handle a lot of different jobs, some small repairs for locals and some bigger parts for businesses further out. It gets dusty and loud, but that’s engineering for you. I spend a lot of time looking at drawings and trying to make sure the measurements are right because if you mess up a piece of steel, there isn't much you can do to fix it. We don't have any big slogans or a fancy mission, we just try to get the pieces out the door so the customers can get back to their own work. Sometimes we have to wait a while for materials to arrive, which can be frustrating, but we just find other things to clean or organize while we wait. It's just a regular local business doing what we know best and trying to get through the day.
