Our steel yard is located at Plot 33/24 in Sundaram Pillai Nagar, which is right in the heart of Tondiarpet. It’s a very industrial neighborhood with a lot of noise from the nearby port and the heavy trucks that are always on the move. The yard is an open space where we keep our stacks of steel. It gets very hot under the Chennai sun, so the metal can be difficult to handle in the middle of the day. We have a small, basic office on-site which is mostly just a place to keep the weight slips and the registers. It’s a dusty environment because of the iron filings and the wind from the coast. We don't have any fancy equipment or a polished office. Most of our day is spent outdoors, supervising the loading and unloading of the trucks. It’s physical work and it can be quite tiring. We have a few regular workers who have been with us for a long time. We don't do much in the way of advertising. Most people find us because they saw our trucks or heard about us from someone else in the trade. It’s a simple, honest business and we just focus on getting the steel out to the construction sites and workshops that need it.
