Unitrans Shipping &Trading Pvt. Ltd. is located over at 163/81 Thambu Chetty Street, up on the second floor. It’s a busy spot, and sometimes the noise from the street carries up, but we’re used to it by now. We handle a mix of shipping and trading, so there is never really a quiet day. One minute we’re talking about freight rates and the next we’re dealing with a supplier about a batch of goods. We aren't a massive company with hundreds of employees. We’re a tighter group, which means everyone has to know how to do a bit of everything. If the person who usually handles the dock paperwork is out, someone else just jumps in. It’s the only way to keep things moving. We don't have fancy furniture or a big reception area because we’d rather spend our time actually working. Most of our clients are people we’ve known for a long time. They call us because they know we’ll give them a straight answer, even if the news is that a ship is stuck in a storm. We think it’s better to be honest than to try and sound like a brochure. The paperwork can be a real pain sometimes, and the regulations seem to change every week, but we just keep at it. It’s a living, and we’re proud to be part of the community here.
