Being in an industrial estate means it is never really quiet during the day. There is always a rhythmic thumping of machines or the sound of metal being moved around nearby. Our place is no different. We spend the whole day surrounded by tools and heavy equipment. The air is often thick with the smell of machine oil and coolant. It is a very practical environment. We do not have a lobby with magazines or a receptionist sitting at a desk. You usually just walk in and find someone in overalls. Ambattur gets very hot in the summer months, and the tin roof on the building does not help much, but we keep the big fans going. We focus on the precision of the tools we are making. It takes a lot of concentration and steady hands. Sometimes you spend hours on one small piece of metal. We have a small area in the back where we keep the finished stock. It is organized, but it can be a bit of a maze. The Second Main Road sees a lot of truck movement, so we are always watching out when we step outside for a break.
