Our office is in the Ramakrishna Buildings on Anna Salai. The address is a bit confusing because it is New No. 239, but people still use the Old No. 183 when they talk about it. Anna Salai is a major road, so it is always crowded with buses and cars. The building has been there for a long time and you can see it in the way the stairs are worn down and the high ceilings. We do engineering work, so our desks are usually covered in drawings and technical papers. It is not a clean or quiet place. There is always someone discussing a project or looking for a specific file that went missing. Most of us have worked here for years, so we have a routine that works for us. We don't have those modern open-plan offices you see in magazines. It is more like a maze of cabins and shelves. The air conditioning works most of the time, but on the really hot days, it struggles to keep up with the Chennai heat. We don't spend time on fancy marketing talk or trying to impress people. We just focus on the machines and the projects we have on hand. It is a lot of hard work and sometimes long hours when a big job is due. We just take it day by day and try to keep things running as smoothly as possible without making a fuss.
