Swamjee Maritime Agencies

Our office is located at Number 257 on Linghi Chetty Street. Some of the older folks still call it 124, which was the old numbering system they used to have here. It’s an old part of the city, and the street is usually packed with people and small shops selling all sorts of things. Swamjee Maritime Agencies has been operating out of this spot for a while now. The building is one of those traditional ones with high ceilings and narrow stairs that make you catch your breath if you’re carrying heavy files. We do maritime work, which mostly means dealing with a lot of papers and keeping track of what’s happening at the docks. Chennai can get incredibly hot in the afternoons, so our ceiling fans are almost always running at full speed. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the stacks of documents we have to keep for the records. We don't have any of those modern open-plan offices you see in the movies. It’s more about little rooms and people shouting across the hallway to ask where a certain file went. We are just a group of people who have been in the shipping business long enough to know the ropes. It’s not a fancy life, but it keeps us busy and we like the neighborhood. There’s a good tea stall just down the road where we usually take our breaks.
