Sri Lakshmi Steel Fabs

Our workshop is at L-9 in the Sidco Industrial Estate in Villivakkam. Being in a Sidco area means we are surrounded by all sorts of other trades, from plastic shops to grinding units. It’s a busy, gritty environment and we fit right in. We do steel fabrication, so there is always the sound of saws cutting through metal and the hum of the grinders. The air in the shop usually has that metallic tang to it. We have a big sliding door at the front that stays open all day to let some air in, otherwise, it would be impossible to work in the heat. There’s no fancy carpet or painted walls here. It’s just raw brick and concrete, which is fine for the kind of work we do. At Sri Lakshmi Steel Fabs, we focus on the task at hand. We might have several different things going on at once, so the floor gets pretty crowded with steel frames and parts. Villivakkam is a good place for a shop like ours because everything we need is close by. We’ve been at L-9 for a good while now, and we’ve seen the estate change over the years. But the work stays the same—heavy, hot, and constant. We don’t put on any acts; we just show up, do the welding and the cutting, and try to keep things moving along. It’s just a regular fabrication shop run by regular people.
