Sree Lakshmiram Bright Bars is tucked away at B-29 in the Mugapair Industrial Estate West, near Padi. We’ve been here for a good number of years now. The workshop is mostly about processing steel bars. It’s not the cleanest job in the world. Your hands are always going to be a bit oily by the end of the shift. We have a small office at the front, but it's usually empty because we’re all out back near the machines. The noise of metal hitting metal is the constant background music here. We don't go in for big advertisements or anything like that. Most of our work comes from people who know where to find us in Padi. The traffic around the industrial estate can be a nightmare in the evenings, so we try to get our loading done early. Our team is a mix of older guys who have been doing this forever and a few younger ones learning the trade. We make sure the bars are straight and the finish is okay. It’s simple, honest work. Sometimes the machines break down and we spend the whole afternoon with wrenches and oil trying to get them started again. We don't have a mission statement on the wall. We just show up, do the grinding and the polishing, and go home. It’s a living, and we take it one day at a time without much fuss. It keeps us busy and the yard stays full.
