The shop floor stays pretty hot during the afternoons here in Porur. We usually have a couple of big industrial fans running but they mostly just move the warm air around while the guys are working on the lathes. It’s been at this spot in Ambattur Sakthi Nagar for a while now. If you walk inside, you will see stacks of metal parts waiting to be finished and the smell of cutting oil is everywhere. It’s not a fancy place by any means. There’s a small desk in the corner where the ledger sits under a paperweight because the wind from the door sometimes blows things around. We start early when the light is still soft and try to get the heavy stuff done before the sun gets too high. Sometimes people stop by just to ask for directions or a quick fix on something small they brought from home. The street outside gets busy with scooters and trucks going back and forth, so there is always some background noise while we measure and cut. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the address No. 8353 T. N. H. B. which most people find eventually. The walls are a bit stained from years of work and the tools are old but they still do what they are supposed to do. It’s just us doing what we know how to do every day in this little corner of the neighborhood.
