Site Engineer

I’m located at No.25 on Ganthi Street in Sholinganallur, Chennai-119. Even though this part of the city is full of tech parks and big glass buildings, my job as a site engineer is a lot more old-school. I deal with mud, steel, and concrete every day. Ganthi Street is where I have my small office, but you’ll rarely find me there during the daylight hours. I’m usually out at one of the construction sites around the Sholinganallur area. Being an engineer on-site is about being the bridge between the paper plans and the actual physical building. It’s a lot of coordination. I have to talk to the electrician, the plumber, and the masons all at the same time. Things get messy, and there’s always some problem to solve, like a shipment of tiles that arrived broken or a drain that’s in the wrong place. I don’t believe in making things sound better than they are. Construction is hard work and it takes time. I just try to be as honest as possible with the people I work for. I make sure the materials are used wisely and the structure is built to the right specifications. It’s a tiring job, especially with the Chennai heat, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing a project finally get finished after months of staring at a skeleton of beams and pillars.
